The Issue

Water is very important to human existence. People need clean water to survive and stay healthy. Lack of clean water contributes to the high mortality rates in children around the world. Despite of its importance, still the access to water remains a major challenge in many countries including Tanzania. Tanzanians are still faced with water shortages with 45.5% accessing water from unimproved sourced (DHS, 2010). Insufficient water supply coverage impacts most, severely on the poor in both urban and rural. The poor make their own, often insufficient arrangements to meet their needs for basic survival.

Climate Change

The Issue

Around the world, climate change is increasingly recognized as a major challenge.  The effects are being felt already and will increase in intensity over the coming years. The Least developed countries including Tanzania will be the most seriously affected by a rise in sea level, changing patterns of rainfall and increases in average temperature.  The issues of poverty, inadequate infrastructure, and environmental degradation, lack of education about climate change, the rapid pace of urbanization intensify the effects of climate change.

HIV/AIDS

The Issue

The overall 5.1 percent of Tanzanians with the age between 15-49 years are HIV-positive. HIV prevalence is higher among women with 6.2 percent than among men with 3.8 percent (TACAIDS). HIV prevalence is higher in urban areas for both women and men than in rural areas. There is still a challenge of stigma where HIV AIDS affected people have lacked opportunities of engaging with others in development activities.
